Vegetable tanned full grain leather
We pride ourselves on guaranteeing our products for life by using the highest quality materials such as vegetable tanned full grain leather.
But what does this imply? Let's trace our materials back!
The hides come from the food industry, which means we collect the hide as waste. No animals are slaughtered specifically to create leather in the first place.
The skin is then treated with vegetable tanning, which is the natural and oldest method: it uses tannic plants such as plants, bark or berries. Vegetable tanning is a more ecological alternative to dyeing leather than traditional tanning. It is non-toxic, 100% biodegradable, and uses a majority of ingredients of natural origin such as bark, fruit shells or plants, unlike conventional tanning whose origin is petrochemical, synthetic.
Full grain leather is one of the best leathers, with almost no defects. It has retained its natural appearance, its grain and its particularity, proof of quality and solidity.
This is a cowhide leather that we import from the Tuscany region of Italy, known for the quality of its tanneries.
Once the leather is received, we carry out the dyeing by hand with products 100% made in France. The particularity of vegetable tanned full grain leather is that it lives over time and is smooth and soft to the touch. Leather lives like our skin; it can accumulate light abrasions from everyday life. This in no way affects its quality and, with regular maintenance, your pieces will last a long time.
For maintenance, we will support you and help you so that your accessory keeps its shine.
Dye and creams
Maison Botamorphose offers a fully personalized color chart thanks to the handmade dyeing done directly on the leather. Imagine your leather as a painter's palette.
The dyes are also of high quality, guaranteeing a superb rendering and product quality over time. All our dyes are made in France.
Once the dyeing is done on the product, we apply finishing creams from the same range as our dyes. These creams are comparable to shoe polish, made from beeswax, providing protection, hydration of the leather and a brilliant shine.
With each of our creations, we will provide you with small maintenance tips so that your product remains impeccable over time. Of course, we will be there for you if you prefer that your accessory be maintained in the hands of its maker.
Tools and hardware
Who says manufacturing says tool and none of our tools are industrial machines. Each of the manufacturing steps is done by hand with tools recommended by the world's greatest houses and craftsmen.
All of our tools come from American, French, Italian and Japanese suppliers, masters of their know-how in high-end & luxury leather goods.
For example, cutting is done using several tools such as an Indispensable and a half-moon foot knife, which are obviously used with the hands.
Design
Before each project begins, you need to know how the project will be! We take the time to study the shape, color and size of each creation. Our goal is to create a product that will enhance every look, that will be practical and will be indispensable in your everyday life.
We offer you a fully personalized service to create your unique products.
Sketch and model
Once the design is validated, we prepare the model and the pattern of your creations. We first create a paper model in order to check the dimensions with you before cutting into the leather.
This key step confirms your unique accessory and there is no turning back. We strive to apply a zero waste approach to raw materials. We take the time to check each pattern using paper models before moving on to cutting.
Once the pattern has been tested and validated, we move on to cutting the leather.
In our approach, we use every part of the leather, so it is essential to ensure that no part is wasted.
If some parts have slight imperfections, we will use them in the linings or with the accessories of your creation.

It contains several major stages of product creation:

Brushing leather
Assembling the structural pieces
Hand sewing with saddle stitch

Sewing and finishing
The particularity of Maison Botamorphose pieces is that all the pieces are 100% hand-sewn with saddle stitch.
This is an ancestral technique of leather sewing that guarantees the best strength of the assembly. Each stitch is neat and checked. This is a much longer assembly process than that of the machine but its quality is irreproachable over time.
This technique also allows us to easily repair pieces over time, which is much more complicated or even impossible on machine-sewn pieces.
